Undergraduate Programs

Architectural Design (Studio Minor)

Architectural Design is a construction of relationships, spatially and materially, requiring the making (and revising) of things. It is a discovery…a search, a practice.

Students in 澳门金沙投注_任你博-官网’s Architectural Design Studio Minor develop critical-thinking skills through curious questioning. The exploration of space, time and light enlivens the creative process through (analog and digital) drawing, fabrication and material experimentation.

WHY MINOR IN ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN AT 澳门金沙投注_任你博-官网?

澳门金沙投注_任你博-官网’s Architectural Design program combines critical thinking, technical skill, and creative exploration. You’ll study space, form, and materiality as tools for reimagining the built environment — and its relationship to the body, the city, and the landscape.

You’ll develop fluency in architectural representation, from drawing and model-making to computer-aided design (CAD) and digital fabrication. And because you’re at 澳门金沙投注_任你博-官网, you’ll do it all in conversation with artists and designers from all over campus.

This is one of the few undergraduate architecture programs housed within an art college, making it uniquely transdisciplinary.

As a student at 澳门金沙投注_任你博-官网, you’ll pair a strong creative foundation with technical skill and mastery, plus the breadth and depth of the liberal arts and in-the-field experience.

You’ll begin by exploring architectural representation — learning to communicate ideas through drawing, modeling, and digital tools. From there, you’ll progress to advanced topics like material systems, environmental design, and experimental studio practice.

You’ll also have the option to pair Architectural Design with another major or minor, applying architectural thinking to animation, illustration, sculpture, graphic design, and more.

Your journey will culminate with a Senior Thesis Capstone that will span your last two semesters. During this time, you’ll work closely with a faculty mentor to develop a focused, self-directed body of work. You’ll then exhibit this work publicly in 澳门金沙投注_任你博-官网’s Spring ArtWalk.

Building your vision takes the right tools — and plenty of space to grow. At 澳门金沙投注_任你博-官网, we provide everything you need to get there.

澳门金沙投注_任你博-官网’s Architectural Design studios are housed on the fifth floor of the Dolphin Design Center. This 25,000-square-foot facility features state-of-the-art computer and fabrication labs, classrooms, and collaborative workspaces.

You’ll experiment with advanced fabrication tools — including CNC routers, laser cutters, and 3D printers — as well as the same digital modeling software and equipment used across the architecture and construction industries.

澳门金沙投注_任你博-官网 students graduate well-prepared for a range of professional paths — from graduate study to careers in exhibition design, set design, and environmental or urban design.

Our students regularly intern with top firms in Baltimore, such as Ziger|Snead, PI.KL, and Urban Design Group. Many go on to join these or similar companies as junior designers after graduation. Others are admitted to leading graduate architecture programs, including those at Columbia, Yale, MIT, and Penn.

As part of your coursework, you’ll take classes that connect you to the architecture profession as it exists today. You’ll work on community-based projects with local firms, engage in critiques led by practicing architects, and examine where the field is headed next.

Also, to shop techniques in wood, metal, plaster and other materials. Students will learn how best to match ideas and concepts with representational techniques.

Interior/Exterior Rel

An expansion of principles learned and design-thinking skills obtained in previous studios. All sides of a thing exist at the same time. Acting on one part affects another. The analysis of design decisions will lead investigations into the mechanisms by which spaces take on relational meaning. From conceiving of ideas to problem solving, students are guided to construct a framework of a design process and practice that is rigorous, yet personal. The reciprocal relationship of interior to exterior will develop through a rigorous approach to drawing, model-making and fabrication.
